Dr. Bharadwaj is one of the premier retina specialists in the San Francisco Bay area and is an active member of the clinical faculty at UCSF. He founded the practice nearly 20 years ago to provide a level of care in tune with his strong vision of service. Highly regarded by retina specialists nationwide, he has over 25 years of experience in the treatment of retinal conditions. Dr. Bharadwaj attended college at Harvard University, after which he received a scholarship to attend Oxford University in England to complete his Master's degree in Physiology. He returned to Harvard Medical School where he undertook intensive retina research as a Howard Hughes Clinical Research Fellow and earned his M.D. degree.
He stayed at Harvard for his Internship in General Internal Medicine, then pursued Ophthalmology residency at Washington University in St. Louis. He finished his training with a retina fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia.
Dr. Bharadwaj has authored numerous articles in peer reviewed journals, book chapters, and talks. He has been an investigator in over 20 major retina clinical trials. During the course of his research he discovered 13 novel, likely pathogenic genetic mutations that lead to Usher Syndrome. He has given talks nationally and internationally, and continues to review papers submitted for publication in the field. He stays up to date with the latest developments in medical and surgical retina, and utilizes the newest, most cutting-edge imaging technology at both of his office locations. He is also a passionate teacher to retina fellows, ophthalmology residents, medical and pre-medical students.
Dr. Bharadwaj is grateful for his family, training, mentors, and life experiences. He enjoys hiking in the Bay area and travel when time permits. He strives to treat each patient with the same concern that would be given to a family member.
